Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra President Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Nadeem Siddiqui appeals to Imams of mosques and the public to offer special prayers for rainfall
Mumbai, August 20, 2026 (Press Release): Due to inadequate rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra, people are currently facing serious difficulties. In several areas, the shortage of rainfall may lead to water scarcity, adversely affect agriculture and crops, and create various other problems. In view of the prevailing situation, the President of Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra, Hazrat Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Nadeem Siddiqui Sahib, has appealed to the general public to turn to Allah Almighty with devotion, engage in abundant repentance and Istighfar (seeking forgiveness), and sincerely urged the Imams of mosques to arrange special prayers for beneficial rainfall during today’s Friday prayers.
Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Nadeem Siddiqui said that rainfall is a great blessing and mercy from Allah Almighty. However, when people turn away from the commands of Allah and injustice and sins become widespread on earth; when people stop paying the obligatory Zakat from their wealth; when they become miserly or negligent in fulfilling financial rights; when they resort to under-measuring and under-weighing in trade and transactions; and when breach of promises and dishonesty in dealings become widespread, Allah may withhold great blessings such as rainfall in order to reform His servants.
Therefore, in difficult circumstances, we should turn towards our Creator and Master, examine our deeds, and sincerely repent from our sins. Referring to the invitation of Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him), Allah Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an: “Seek forgiveness from your Lord; indeed, He is Most Forgiving. He will send down abundant rain upon you from the sky.”
Imams and Islamic scholars should arrange special prayers for rainfall in mosques, while the public should also supplicate to Allah Almighty with humility and devotion in their homes and places of worship, asking Him for His merciful rain.
He said that people should engage in abundant Istighfar, sincere repentance, punctuality in the five daily prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, remembrance of Allah, sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, charity and almsgiving, and helping those in need. If circumstances require, Salat-ul-Istisqa (the prayer for seeking rain) should also be performed under the guidance of Islamic scholars, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ offered prayer and supplication when seeking rainfall.
Maulana Nadeem Siddiqui further said that everyone should examine their own conduct and dealings, fulfill the rights of others, refrain from oppression, wrongdoing, deception, interest (Riba), bribery and other sins, and seek lawful earnings. The rights of relatives should be fulfilled, severing family ties should be avoided, and every possible assistance should be provided to the poor and deserving.
He said that those who are financially capable should give charity and alms, assist the needy and poor, and perform as many good deeds as possible for the sake of Allah Almighty. Efforts should be made to seek Allah’s mercy through charity, repentance, Istighfar and sincere supplications.
He appealed to the public to use this occasion as an opportunity to turn towards Allah Almighty, repent, seek forgiveness, engage in righteous deeds, and offer special prayers for beneficial and merciful rainfall.
