The movement for Islamic Maktabs is a movement of the Prophets; therefore, it is extremely important to make every effort to bring children to the Maktabs.
Nagpur, 19 September 2026 (Press Release): A one-day public gathering on the importance and need of Maktabs was organized by Jamiat Ulama-i-Nagpur at Jamia Hussainia, Nagpur, under the chairmanship of Hazrat Maulana Nadeem Siddiqui, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Maharashtra. The gathering was attended by prominent Islamic scholars, particularly Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Salman Mansurpuri, grandson of Sheikh-ul-Islam and Hadith teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband and General Secretary of the Religious Education Board of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind; Mufti Muhammad Roshan Shah Qasmi, President of the Religious Education Board of Jamiat Ulama-i-Maharashtra; Maulana Siraj Ahmed Qasmi, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Nagpur District; Maulana Muhammad Murtaza; Professor Syed Nauman, Administrator of Madinatul Uloom and President of Nagpur; Maulana Syed Abdul Hadi, Administrator of Jamia Hussainia; and other local Islamic scholars. The gathering began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Qari Basharat Ali, followed by a Naat presented by Muhammad Atiq, a student of Jamia Hussainia.
The chairperson of the gathering, Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Nadeem Siddiqui, said that it is necessary to turn the campaign for religious educational awareness into a movement and ensure that 100 percent of children are enrolled in Maktabs. He said that the government and other institutions are using various means to turn our children away from Islam, and if we do not take action now, our future generation may drift away from religion and faith. In the present era, efforts are continuously being made through various means to influence the minds of children and young people. Social media, the internet, various intellectual and cultural influences, and an irreligious environment can affect children’s beliefs, thoughts and Islamic identity. Therefore, every Muslim needs to begin this campaign from their own home, send their children to a Maktab, and play a role in connecting other children in their neighborhood with religious education.
The special speaker, Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Salman Mansurpuri, also emphasized the importance of religious education and Maktabs. He said that essential religious knowledge is like the backbone; without it, a believer cannot remain firm in faith. Religious knowledge is like a light. Just as one cannot reach a destination without light, similarly, no believer can succeed without the light of religious knowledge. He further said that in today’s environment of trials and temptations, forces opposed to religion are shaping the minds of our children. Only if there is a religious environment in our homes can we protect our children. If there is no religious environment at home, it will become difficult to safeguard the faith of our children. Therefore, it is extremely important today to establish Maktabs and make efforts to bring children to them. Just as we are concerned about school education, it is equally necessary to emphasize Maktab education. The Maktab movement is a movement of the Prophets. Our Prophet ﷺ also placed great emphasis on the upbringing and education of children.
Mufti Muhammad Roshan Qasmi, in his address, emphasized the importance of religious education and said that Allah, through the words of His Prophet ﷺ, has made the acquisition of knowledge obligatory upon every man and woman. Evils can be removed through religious education. Today, a large number of our children are far from Maktabs. If we do not take care of them, these young people may become lost in the darkness of disbelief and polytheism. Falsehood has been an enemy of our faith from the very beginning, and efforts are being made through falsehood to distance our children from religion and Islam.
The successful organization of the gathering was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Maulana Siraj Ahmed Qasmi, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Nagpur District; General Secretary Muhammad Saleem Ansari; Secretary Farooq Qaiser; Treasurer Imtiazuddin Akhtar; Hafiz Riazuddin; Qari Masood Ahmed; Maulvi Muhammad Masood; Abdul Mabood Khan; Engineer Abdul Rahman; and other members of Jamiat Ulama-i-Nagpur District. A large number of city scholars, Imams of mosques, prominent citizens and other participants attended the gathering.
